The Boy in the Iceberg by selk-e The Boy in the Iceberg by selk-e
I drew this tonight as a start to a big project centered around the "Avatar: The Last Airbender" cartoon. I'm really new to environmental art and am finding it incredibly overwhelming, so I've decided to do one drawing per episode of Avatar as a way to experiment without getting stressed out. It's just for fun, but hopefully by the season finale's drawing, I'll have improved.

These are meant to be more conceptual and loose than reproductions of screen captures.

Thanks for looking.

Okay, so I found this on Pintrerest, and made it my background on my phone (because lets face it, this is awesome). But I was wondering, have you thought of just doing a stile of the iceberg, I don't know why, but I think that would be awesome. I mean I get why you might not want to do that, creative vision, stifling your artistic soul and such. But I just thought I would give you something to think about.

Hello! I had no idea this was ON Pinterest.  I'm glad you like it!  I'm not quite sure what you mean, is there another way you can explain what you're envisioning? I'm honestly not too worried about my creative vision.  It has a habit of getting away from me on the best of days.  : )

Like when they first find him, still iceberg but glowing, above the water, with water swirling all around, and very centered. Like an essence of balance and peace. I'm not exactly sure, I'm much more of a writer, I can't really do art.

I think I know what you mean.  I may do that at some point! I'm not sure I can describe the mood I was going for with this one.. to me it was all about things that aren't visible or balanced.  Sort've like the moment JUST before things became weird in their lives.  My goal is to do one per episode for the whole show, and this was the first- I may come back at the very end and do what you're describing as sort've a frontispiece.  Does any of that make sense?

It does, you wanted to show the calm before the storm, the split second before their lives were thrown into chaos. And yea, I don't want to force you to do anything, I just thought that would be really interesting to see, and I love your style.

great work! You managed to create a new and abstract piece of art while retaining a lot of natural atmosphere.
Can't wait to see the rest!

Thank you! I try to diverge into my own headspace and still take inspiration from the show, it can actually be kind've tricky to resist the urge to juts draw a screenshot. So I really appreciate your reaction! :)
